Discover the mystery and history of Borobudur Temple, one of the Seven Wonder of the World which is around 42 km to the west of Yogyakarta. It stands majestically on a hill overlooking lush green fields and distant hills and rises in seven terraces, each smaller than the one below it. The next visit will be Mendut Temple with its great statue of Buddha seated with two disciples. The top is the Great Stupa, standing forty meters above the ground. The walls are sculpted in base relief, hailed as the largest and most complete ensemble of Buddhist reliefs in the world. Built in the eighth century, and 'discovered' by Raffles in 1817, the monument has now been completely restored.
As a neighboring city of Yogyakarta, Solo is also famous for its Javanese Culture! The next visit will be to the amazing Radya Pustaka Museum, noted as the oldest museum in Indonesia. About 22 km from the beautiful Solo, there is an anthropological center of Indonesia and a Museum of Sangiran where the fossilized human bones (Pithecanthropus erectus, Java Man and Homo sapiens) and animal bones are kept. During excavations in the next years’ fossils of some of the first known human ancestors, Pithecanthropus erectus ("Java Man", now reclassified as part of the species Homo erectus), were found here. About 60 more human fossils have since been found here. In addition, there are considerable numbers of remains of animals that these primitive humans hunted, and of others that merely shared the habitat. Doesn't that sound like a fun tour?!
