Location: Porto, Portugal
Duration: 1 hour

Built by a family of winemakers from the Douro in 1751, Ferreira is the only Porto Wine company that has always remained Portuguese through all its history. Dona Antónia Adelaide Ferreira contributed significantly to the consolidation of the brand through her work to benefit the Douro region and its people. Facing the adversities of the 19thC, she became a symbol of strength still recognized today. Ferreira invites you to discover a brand with over 250 years of history, in a tour through the cellars where, since the 18thC, Porto Wine has aged in hundreds of wood casks and vats. In this guided tour, you will enjoy a visit through the cellars, the “D. Antónia Belongings Room" and the Museum, ending with a tasting of Vintage Porto, a superior quality wine.

Proudly facing the historical center of Porto and the Duoro RIver, in a granite building from 1811, the House of Sandeman invites you to a mysterious and sensual experience in a traditional and cosmopolitan environment. Inside, you will find one of the most complete collections of antique English handmade bottles, from the 17thC and 18thC. It includes 80 copies of distinctive periods and forms. In the Auditorium, visitors of different nationalities have access to personalized information in their own language. Here, the spectacular scenery of the Douro Valley is also enhanced in a picture gallery. In this visit, a guide dressed as the Don – in a Portuguese student’s cape and a Spanish sombrero – will guide you through the cellar explaining Sandeman’s Porto Wine History. The visit ends with a tasting of three different categories of wines: white, ruby and tawny.

Founded by William Offley in 1737, the Company gained worldwide fame and recognition under the guidance of Joseph James Forrester, a legendary figure in the history of Porto Wine who was appointed Baron by the King of Portugal. The Baron of Forrester was an important businessman, oenologist, artist, and the author of the first map of the Douro region. He left an important artistic, photographic and cartographic legacy, recognized today as of the utmost importance for Douro history. Offley continues to reflect irreverence and contemporaneity, producing Porto Wines of international quality. In this visit, for small groups of connoisseurs, the fascinating story of the Baron of Forrester and his important role in the Porto Wines business is explained by an enthusiastic team while walking through rows of ageing casks. At the end, a tasting of two Porto Wines is also included.
