Day 1

Madrid

Welcome to Madrid! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. Your guide will be ready to welcome you and will provide the necessary information. Towards the end of the day, you can get transferred to the Egyptian Debod temple, Plaza de España and Gran Via, a vibrant district where you can dine at your preferred restaurant.

Overnight in Madrid.

Day 2

Madrid

Visit to the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas bullring. Stroll through the Retiro Park.  This morning, experience the city on a guided tour, which showcases the city’s vibrant center, the beautiful Plaza May, with its broad and magnificent avenues and its many fountains. Your tour includes a visit to see inside the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas, a fine-looking building. Here you will learn about the tradition of “corridas” in the Bullfighting Museum. The day includes a walking tour of the beautiful Retiro Park, enhanced by the lake and Crystal Palace. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon. At sunset you will be transferred to the Plaza de Oriente in the historic center of Madrid, opposite the Royal Palace.

Day 3

Madrid - Granada

You will leave Madrid by bus in the early morning (if the group of English-speaking travelers is small, sometimes they will share the trip to Granada with Spanish-speaking passengers). You will travel to the south across La Mancha, stopping in Puerto Lapice, a ‘manchego’ village evoking the figure of Don Quixote. You will enter Andalusia via Despeñaperros. You will arrive at Granada. In the afternoon you will visit the immense Alhambra Palace (entrance and local guide included) and its beautiful Generalife gardens, built in Arab times. Later, enjoy an evening transfer to Granada’s city center, where restaurants mix with local cultural flavor to create an unforgettable night. You will also have the option to attend a flamenco dance show and the traditional neighborhood of Sacramonte.

Note: In the Alhambra complex, the Nazari palaces allow a limited number of people in at a time. In the highly improbable case of not being able to visit this area of the Alhambra, a visit to the Alcázares will be included in Seville (which have similar architecture and features).

Overnight in Granada (Breakfast).

Day 4

Granada - Seville

You will leave Granada and travel towards the Costa del Sol. You will reach Malaga and have some time for a stroll in the historic center with its cathedral and the Picasso Museum. Afterwards you will continue along the coastal motorway with beautiful views of the Mediterranean. You will arrive in Puerto Banus, a pretty high level recreational port in Marbella. Time for lunch. In the afternoon you will continue through the hills and their stories of bandoliers until you come to Ronda, a very beautiful white town with a large gorge that divides it in two. Continue to Seville at the end of the afternoon.

Overnight in Seville (Breakfast).

Day 5

Seville

After breakfast, a local expert will guide you through a scenic visit of Seville  featuring the Cathedral and its famous Giralda, the banks of the Guadalquivir River, the popular neighborhoods of Santa Cruz and Triana, and the beautiful Plaza de España. (Note: If the group has fewer than fifteen travelers, it can be arranged in both Spanish and English). Enjoy leisure time afterwards. At the end of the afternoon, you will go to the historic city center area of Calle Alfonso XII where many different restaurants can be found.

Overnight in Seville (Breakfast).

Day 6

You will see the Rabida Monastery; a World Heritage site, the Rabida Monastery is a Franciscan friary strongly linked to the history of Columbus's discovery (entrance included).

Then, you will travel to Portugal, where you will stop in the ancient Muslim city of Mertola for lunch. Afterwards, through white villages you will come to Evora, a city which had been declared a World Heritage site with its wide streets, its Renaissance policies and its cathedral. You will be able to enter the impressive Chapel of Bones, built with 5,000 skeletons!  Then you will arrive at Lisbon at the end of the day.

Overnight in Lisbon (Breakfast).

Day 7

You will look round the Monument to the Discoveries, Belem Tower, and to the beautiful Jeronimos Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the Belem neighborhood, you will have the opportunity to try a “Belem cake”, an exquisite local delicacy. The afternoon is free so that you can explore this great city independently. At the end of the afternoon, transfer to the Restauradores Square, an area with numerous restaurants and cafes from where you may take the Elevador Da Gloria that takes you to the viewpoint of San Pedro with beautiful views over Lisbon and the Bairro Alto (meaning “upper district”).
