Brief

See the ancient wonders of Mexico over the course of this 13-day trip from Mexico City to Oaxaca, the home of many bygone civilizations, to San Cristóbal, where traditions are kept alive, and all the way to Palenque, where grand pyramids and the sarcophagus of the mighty King Pakal could be found. Uncover ancient Mexican history at Mérida, aka the “White City”. Then, you will go to Uxmal and Chichén Itzá, where the marvels of Mayan architecture still stand tall to this day, before taking a dip in the natural basin of Ik Kil and swim at the beaches of Cancun.

Day 1

Mexico City

Once you arrive at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2

Mexico City

You will go on a morning tour of the Main Square, where you will see such highlights as the Zócalo, the Cathedral, the Government Palace, and Diego Rivera's murals. You will continue to Reforma Avenue and Chapultepec. Then, you will visit the Anthropology Museum, one of the most important museums in the world. You may stay on your own or go back to your hotel. We suggest an optional tour to Xochimilco's water canals.

Day 3

Mexico City

You will go on an excursion to Teotihuacán, “Where Men become Gods”; this is a mystical archaeological zone where the Aztecs believed the Sun, the Moon and the whole Universe had been created. It is located 31 miles northeast of Mexico City. Teotihuacán was a political, commercial and religious center which, when it was at its peak, was inhabited by more than 200,000 people. Among its most interesting constructions are the awesome Pyramid of the Sun, the Pyramid of the Moon, and the Temple of Quetzalcoatl (“The Feathered Snake”). The Aztec culture that produced this magnificent city originated in the 1stC A.D. and reached its peak between the 3rd and 4th centuries when, mysteriously, they declined and the site was abandoned. In the afternoon, on the way back to Mexico City, you will stop at the Basilica de Guadalupe, which is dedicated to Saint Mary and is the most visited shrine in Latin America.

Day 4

Mexico City – Oaxaca

You will depart for Puebla, “The City of Angels”, where you will visit the Church of Santa Maria Tonantzintla, a temple gorgeously decorated by indigenous hands. On our arrival to Puebla, you will visit the Rosario’s Chapel, the Cathedral, the Main Square and the Historical Downtown. You will then continue on to Oaxaca for the evening.

Day 5

Oaxaca

During the morning, you will visit Monte Alban, a great archeological site to behold that was built on a mountain top. There, you will be able to admire the remains of ancient cultures and civilizations such as the Olmecs, the Mixtecs and the Zapotecs, including: The Main Square, the Observatory, Tomb # 7 and the Stones of the Dancers. Later, you will continue to Mitla, one of the most enigmatic sacred sites. The village held great importance as a burial site. The buildings are decorated with symbolic mosaics. On the way, you are going to find the Tule Tree, perhaps one of the biggest living beings in the world. Return to Oaxaca and visit its beautiful city, including the Cathedral, the magnificent Santo Domingo church and Gold museum.

Day 6

Oaxaca – San Cristóbal

In the early morning, you will depart for Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the capital city of Chiapas. You will enjoy the landscapes of the southern mountains before you are transferred by boat to the Sumidero Ecotourism Park. If time permits, you will walk by the eco-tourist park and enjoy the swimming pool or the “Tyrolese” zip line (Optional). You will then go on a boat ride through the Sumidero Canyon, which stands at 1,000m (3,300 feet) at its highest point. Afterwards, you will drive to San Cristóbal de las Casas via Chiapa de Corzo.

Day 7

San Cristóbal

After breakfast, you will visit the Amatenango del Valle and El Chiflón waterfalls. Afterwards, drive to visit the Montebello Lagoons, and continue to San Cristóbal de las Casas

Day 8

San Cristóbal – Palenque

Head to Agua Azul waterfalls to admire their turquoise-colored waters before you continue on to Palenque.

Overnight in Palenque (Breakfast, Dinner).

Day 9

Palenque – Campeche

You will visit the archaeological site of Palenque, one of the most important sites from the ancient Mayan civilization. Inside the Pyramid of the Inscriptions, King Pakal's sarcophagus and its fascinating carved gravestone were found. You will see the Sun Temple, the Cross Temple and the Palace. Afterwards, you will go to the beautiful walled city of Campeche.

Day 10

Campeche – Mérida

You will visit the archaeological site of Uxmal and wonder at its architectural marvels, including: The Pyramid of the Magician, the Governor’s Palace, the Nunnery Quadrangle, and the Ballgame Court. You will then transfer to Mérida, “The White City”, to enjoy its panoramic views of Montejo Avenue, the monument to the Motherland, the Main Square, the Cathedral, and the Government Palaces.

Day 11

Mérida – Cancun

You will depart for Chichén Itzá, the most important and awesome Mayan site in Mexico. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the new 7 Wonders of The World. You will find advanced knowledge of archeoastronomy in this city. You will visit El Castillo, a pyramid that is also known as the Temple of Kukulcan, the Ballgame Court, the Skull Temple, the Jaguar Temple, the Observatory, the One Thousand Columns Square, and the Sacred Well. Ahead to beautiful Ik Kil cenote, a well-like body of water within a basin that goes 60m deep, which you will be able to swim in. You will then continue to Cancun.

Day 12

Cancun

Today will be at leisure for you to enjoy the wonderful talcum powdered turquoise beaches of this marvelous center, or take an optional tour to Isla Mujeres, Xcaret, Tulum/Xel-Há or Cozumel. This will be a good day for you to confirm your flight the next day or ask about alternatives.

Day 13

Cancun

At your convenience, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
