After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you will start the day’s tour at 09:30, where you will start with the National Park of Þingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and arguably the most important historical site in Iceland. In the 10th C, Icelanders from all over the country gathered here to form the Althing – the world first democratic parliament. Not only is the park historically significant, it is also geologically important, as here is where the 2 continental plates can be seen slowly drifting apart. The Great Atlantic Rift is clearly visible from the park, and you can literally walk between the American and Eurasian continental plates.
Afterwards, you will to Geysir, where you will find stunning multicolored pools of water and mud. After a tasty lunch, you will go to the mighty Gullfoss, or “the Golden Falls,” a double waterfall in the Hvítá River. After Gullfoss you will head to Fridheimar – a geothermal greenhouse farm where they grow fresh tomatoes all year around. Continuing on to the Eldhestar riding center, you will watch the popular horse show about the Icelandic horse, which has light feet, amazing balance, and ability to master 5 gaits rather than just the traditional5.
