Day 1

Reykjavik

Welcome to Iceland! Upon your arrival at Keflavik International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is yours to explore the capital on your own.

Overnight in Reykjavik.

Day 2

Reykjavik

After a delicious breakfast at your hotel, you will start the day’s tour at 09:30, where you will start with the National Park of Þingvellir, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and arguably the most important historical site in Iceland. In the 10th C, Icelanders from all over the country gathered here to form the Althing – the world first democratic parliament. Not only is the park historically significant, it is also geologically important, as here is where the 2 continental plates can be seen slowly drifting apart. The Great Atlantic Rift is clearly visible from the park, and you can literally walk between the American and Eurasian continental plates.

Afterwards, you will to Geysir, where you will find stunning multicolored pools of water and mud. After a tasty lunch, you will go to the mighty Gullfoss, or “the Golden Falls,” a double waterfall in the Hvítá River. After Gullfoss you will head to Fridheimar – a geothermal greenhouse farm where they grow fresh tomatoes all year around. Continuing on to the Eldhestar riding center, you will watch the popular horse show about the Icelandic horse, which has light feet, amazing balance, and ability to master 5 gaits rather than just the traditional5. Finally, you will head back to Reykjavik, arriving at around 18:30.

Overnight in Reykjavik (Breakfast, Lunch).

Day 3

Reykjavik

Start the last day of 2017 bright and early for you city tour of Reykjavik to see the capital’s highlights, including the Whales of Iceland Museum that features models of dolphins and whales in life-size. Then you will head to the lava town of Hafnarfjörður, where you can enjoy a Viking lunch while listening to traditional Icelandic folk songs. Afterwards, you will head to the open-air museum of Árbæjar, which will give you a true glimpse of how Icelanders lived in the past. When you return to the hotel around 15:30, your guide will give out all individual tickets for the night’s Gala Dinner at the Harpa concert hall, tell you your table number and give you your badge which allows you to participate in the bonfire tour, grants you re-entry to the Harpa concert hall, and the return transfer back to the hotel (scheduled at 00:30, 01:00, 01:30 and 02:00).

At 17:30, you will go to Harpa and will be served a delicious welcome drink upon arrival. The 3-course Gala Dinner will be served between 18:15 and 20:15. Your guide will be waiting for your group outside to take you to the 2-hour evening Bonfire & Christmas Light Tour, departing at 20:30. You will visit one of many bonfires all over the city and experience how many Icelanders celebrate New Year’s Eve; good shoes, warm clothing, headwear and gloves are needed.

Afterwards, you will return to Harpa for a live band performance and some desert with coffee. At 23:45, all doors will open for you to go outside and enjoy a beautiful firework display. At midnight, sparkling wine will be served. For those who want to dance the night away, transfers back to the hotel are scheduled at 00:30, 01:00, 01:30 and 02:00, so take your time and enjoy the rest of the night!

Overnight in Reykjavik (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner).

Starting with the Icelandic President’s residence, Bessastaðir, you will continue to the Viking World Museum in Reykjanesbær to visit an authentic Viking ship model that sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to New York in the year 2000. After a light all-you-can-eat soup lunch, you will continue your journey to a lighthouse located at the edge of the Reykjanes peninsula. Then you will visit a geothermal power plant that explains how Icelanders benefit from clean geothermal energy in their daily lives.
